A new political advert has been released calling upon Republican Christians to reject President Donald Trump at the polls this November.

The ad, created by 'Republican Voters Against Trump' insists that the President has been using the Christian faith as a convenient political vehicle to garner evangelical votes. In reality, they say, Donald Trump's actions and words do not equate with the basic values and teachings of Christianity.   

One of those featured in the video, 'Pat', highlights Trump's decision to forcibly remove protesters from a public space outside the White House so he could pose next to a church while holding Bible. "The moment that he held up that Bible, he revealed this president is using us,” he said. "Christians have to resist being used to justify things that Jesus would never justify." 

The advert juxtaposes many of Trump's controversial comments on race and vulgar comments about women with passages from the Bible. Eerily, the famous Christian hymn 'Amazing Grace' plays softly in the background. 

"What's going on now is wrong," one of the participants concludes, "and as a Republican, as a Christian, we simply cannot allow this man to be re-elected". 

Trump was a big hit with Christian voters back in 2016, winning over 80% of the white evangelical vote. His support amongst this demographic has fallen slightly in recent times, however, with a June Pew Research study indicating that roughly seven in ten white evangelical Protestants (72%) say they approve of the way Trump is handling his job, compared to 78% as recorded in April. 

In addition, the percentage of white evangelicals who say they “very strongly” approve of Trump’s performance is down to 59%, dropping eight points from 67% in April.
