Gospel singer gets 4 'yeses' at X Factor audition

Jennifer Phillips, from Camden, was originally planning to perform Beyoncé's 'Halo' but she was convinced by the panel to change her mind.

During her performance Phillips received a standing ovation from judges Rita Ora, Nick Grimshaw and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.

When she had finished head judge Simon Cowell also got to his feet for the 49-year-old part time carer.

Rita Ora told the singer she "can't sit down" because she "just needed a constant standing ovation".

"To coin a phrase, you took us to church, girl," said Cheryl Fernandez-Versini. "I mean listen to them, they're going mad for you".

Nick Grimshaw added: "It wasn't even like an audition, I felt like I was at a Jennifer Phillips concert".

"It's a magical moment up here," said Phillips.

Simon Cowell told her it was also "magical" for him: "You define the word joy".

The second episode of The X Factor will air at 8pm on Sunday August 30.
