Friends meeting houses mark Quaker Week

Friends meeting houses throughout the nation are opening their doors and celebrating the difference the Christian denomination has been making, as part of Quaker Week.

Head of Outreach at Quakers in Britain, Gill Sewell told Premier: "It's really a celebration of our faith and to remind people that Quakers are alive and in the world today being faithful people."

The theme for this year's Quaker Week, 'In turbulent times, be a Quaker', is highlighting why the Church is the answer during uncertain times.

Gill Sewell explained: "When you see a lot of despair and darkness in the world, it's lovely to have a space where you can go and be quiet, still and reflective alongside other people who are also seeking peace and goodness in the world."

Quaker venues in Abergavenny, Bexhill-on-sea, Cardiff, Durham, Glasgow, Lincoln, Northampton, Portsmouth, Reading, Telford and Winchester are among those hosting events.

Gill Sewell added: "There are over 150 events that have been happening this week where Quaker meetings have opened up their meeting houses to their local communities, encouraging people to come in and find out about the Quaker away of faith."

Among the events taking place, the Northampton Quaker Meeting is holding a film screening on Saturday and the Croydon Quaker Meeting is hosting a board games day on the same day.
