A former sex shop in Dudley, UK, is set for a dramatic transformation after the authorities approved plans to convert the building into a church and community hub.
The site had sold adult material before closing during the pandemic. Now, it will reopen with a new purpose—serving as a place of worship, complete with a café, food bank, youth room, vestry, and a main worship area for up to 156 people.
Plans submitted to local authorities detail weekly Sunday services for 50 to 100 attendees, along with regular Bible studies and counseling workshops throughout the week, according to documents obtained by the BBC.
A spokesperson for the church said the project reflects their desire to bring hope and healing to the local area.
“It’s about offering a space for restoration—spiritually, emotionally, and practically,” they said.
The change-of-use application was officially approved this week, meaning work on the building’s transformation can now begin.
