A Palestinian Christian from Nazareth has made history as the new secretary general of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA).

The global alliance represents more than 600 million evangelicals in 161 countries. Rev. Botrus Mansour was installed at the WEA General Assembly in Seoul, South Korea, last week.

The weeklong gathering brought together 850 delegates from 124 nations and 4,000 Korean church leaders.

“This is a profound moment,” Rev. Mansour said in his inaugural address. “A Palestinian Christian from Israel has been asked to serve as secretary general. Especially now, with a ceasefire in our region, I give tribute to my people and my country.”

Rev. Mansour has led Nazareth Baptist School, Israel’s only recognized evangelical K–12 school, since 2004. He has also guided regional evangelical networks in Jordan and the Holy Land. His leadership brings a unique perspective from Christianity’s birthplace to the world stage. He pledged to strengthen unity, discipleship, and global impact.

“The Kingdom of God must be visible in our families, workplaces, and communities. When we live out mercy and justice, we make the reign of Christ known,” he said.

The assembly also announced a new International Council to guide WEA’s mission. Its main goal is to see the world reached with the Gospel by 2033, marking 2,000 years since the resurrection of Christ.
