Efforts are underway to restore St Gregory’s Church on Pottergate, after the medieval building was added to Norwich City Council’s Heritage at Risk register.

The Grade-I listed church, dating back to the 14th century, is currently home to St Gregory’s Antiques and Collectables.

However, a recent inspection found serious issues including cracks, damp and masonry damage, leading to safety concerns.

The Norwich Historic Churches Trust is now seeking grant funding for a major programme of conservation.

Interim chairman Chris McCarthy told the Eastern Daily Press: "St Gregory’s is a much-loved historic landmark, and as with many medieval buildings, it faces ongoing conservation challenges.

"Inclusion on the Heritage at Risk Register highlights the need for repairs and allows organisations like ours to work more closely with partners such as Historic England and the City Council to secure the necessary funding."

He added: "We are in the early stages of developing proposals for a major programme of conservation and repair works.

"This will take time, as it involves specialist surveys, very significant fundraising and securing appropriate consents. We are committed to safeguarding St Gregory’s for future generations."

The building remains in active use while plans and fundraising continue.
