Father of four-year-old girl, fighting for her life after catching Strep A says:' keep praying for us'

by Alex Collett

The father of a four-year-old girl, who is fighting for her life in hospital after contracting Strep A pleads with the public to "keep praying for us."

Dean Burns, speaking to the Daily Mail says he is "hopinig for a miracle" and that she will live.

Camila Rose Burns, is currently in Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool, connected to a ventilator since falling ill on Monday.

Since September, at least six children under the age of ten, have died in England and Wales with Strep A.

Usually treated with antibiotics, symptoms such as a sore throat and a rash are the main symptoms to look out for if a person contracts the condition.

Mr Burns told the Daily Mail, he hopes other families won't be put in the same position, he said: "Just keep praying for us please, and keep praying for all the other children and parents who have been affected by this horrible illness.'

"Everyone's saying prayers for her, hoping for a miracle she lives. She needs to live, she's such a special little girl. I can still hear her singing... it's too much.

"When we got here Monday, they said she's the poorliest girl in the whole of England... she's basically not the same girl any more. It's heartbreaking.'

Health experts are now investigating the cause for the rise in cases in Strep A in children,

Microbiologist, Dr Simon Clarke told Sky News that he thinks a lack of mixing due to the pandemic could to be a factor as to why there has been a drop in immunity to infections such as Strep A
