Evangelist George Verwer says 'prayer appreciated' as he undergoes heart surgery

by Chantalle Edmunds

The founder of Operation Mobilisation (O.M.), George Verwer, is in hospital in London for heart surgery.

Verwer, who is in his 80s, is currently receiving treatment in London Bridge Hospital. On 27th May, Verwer posted on his website that he'd been admitted to the hospital for a planned angiogram and possible stent operation, however, a "more serious problem" had been discovered with his main artery.

"So, tomorrow at 1:30 pm London time, I will have open heart bypass surgery. Prayer appreciated and especially that it will not take too long to get back in the action.

"Trust in HIM,

"George

"P.S. Remember to pray for my wife Drena," he wrote.

He added on Facebook: "THANKS FOR YOUR LOVE FRIENDSHIP CARE AND PRAYER I AM told that recovery will take time."

On 23rd May, Verwer had announced on Facebook that he was going into hospital: "I am hesitant to send this but got the push from the Lord. You might remember about two years ago I was told by my Dr that I had AF (irregular heartbeat) and they put me on meds. Now my cardiologist wants me to have a pacemaker and maybe a stent. THANKS FOR PRAYER," he added.

O.M. was founded by George Verwer, who grew up in New Jersey. He became a Christian after hearing Billy Graham speak and began distributing Bibles with a friend in Mexico. This eventually spread to team building for mission ships which travel the world aiming to reach those who haven't heard of Jesus.

Verwer, who resides in the UK when not travelling, is also a prolific author with books including: The Fruit of the Spirit, Hunger for Reality and Confessions of a Toxic Perfectionist and God's Antidote.
