Eberechi Eze credited God after scoring the first senior hat-trick of his career, saying the achievement was something he specifically prayed for before the match.
“Man, I’m grateful again,” he said afterward. “I prayed for it today… a hat-trick, and God gave it to me. That’s faith, man.”
Eze pointed to the sky after completing his third goal and later explained in a post-match interview that he felt God’s hand in the moment. “That was a prayer today, and God gave it to me,” he said.
With his family watching from the stands, the Arsenal midfielder became the club’s first player in almost 50 years to score a hat-trick against Tottenham. He said the second goal was his favorite but added that each one reflected the work he has been putting in.
“Honestly, it’s special,” Eze said as he collected the Player of the Match award and match ball. “Not bad, man.”
In August, Eze said his £67.5 million move to Arsenal was the fulfillment of a prayer he and his mom prayed more than 20 years ago. He was released from Arsenal’s academy at 13 but told Ian Wright he could now “see God’s hand” in bringing him back.
