Donald Trump asks God for 'wisdom and grace' to lead US during prayer phone-in

by Will Maule

US President Donald Trump has thanked God for "working miracles" and said that he is convinced the Lord hears our prayers.

Speaking on a "prayer call" event hosted by his evangelical advisors, the President talked about the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and said he was praying for all those who have been adversely affected by the virus.

"Every family who lost a loved one...I just want to say an extra-special prayer," Trump said. "People have lost loved ones, it should never have happened. Nobody had heard of a thing like this a few months before and all of a sudden they are losing people.

"I want to give my warmest sympathies to the families that have lost someone. I've lost many friends...five friends."

Trump then went on to talk about the power of prayer.

"We know that God hears our prayers," he said. "We have no doubt about it that he's always with us and he'll help us overcome this challenge."

Wrapping up his remarks, the President said he wished to "thank God for working miracles" and asked the Lord "for the wisdom and the grace to continue to lead our country, and to lead it at the top level."

The US election will take place on 4th November.
