Churches in Conwy have stepped in to support households left without water, after a pipe burst in Dolgarrog before the weekend.

Large areas of Conwy county were left without running water for days, with schools and businesses closed whilst Welsh Water repaired the mains pipe at Bryn Cowlyd treatment works.

Local congregations delivered bottled water to their communities, coordinating efforts with their MPs, Members of the Senedd and councillors.

Holy Trinity Church in Llandudno received pallets of bottled water on Friday, which were handed out by volunteers.

Revd Vince Morris said: "We have been working with local councillors, MPs and Members of the Senedd to ensure vulnerable people have access to water. We're grateful for all the volunteers who have helped out and those who have checked in with neighbours."

The Archbishop of Wales, Andrew John, teamed up with Clwyd West MS Darren Millar to distribute bottles.

He said: "I'm so pleased the churches in the Conwy valley have been able to help in what are challenging circumstances.”

Water is now running again, with councillors insisting is is safe to use, but will initially run brown in colour.

Dwr Cymru Welsh Water said: “Discoloured water is common after a burst of this nature. If this happens you should run your tap for a few minutes, if this doesn’t work, turn off your tap for 20 minutes and try again.

"Bottled water stations will remain open until we are confident supplies are restored to normal."
