The message "God has failed" was scrawled over the walls and doors of the building.
The terror attacks in Manchester and London and the horrific fire in Kensington this week may have many questioning where God is amongst this devastation.
But staff members of St Editha's Church in Tamworth have expressed their sadness following the discovery of the vandal's words.
Church Warden, Dawn Perry responded: "God has not failed, God gave us free will. It is man who failed."
She claimed that the motives of the vandalism are unknown, but suggested that it could be in reaction to the recent terror incidents.
The words "Deliver us to evil" was also graffitied on the Church.
A funeral was due to take place at the Church the following day and staff members expressed their frustration, stating: "no one wants to see this graffiti as they walk through the church."
As one of the oldest Churches in the West Midlands, St Editha's is listed as a Grade One building and it will cost the Church hundreds of pounds to clean.
The vicar, Rev Alan Gordon stated: "This is a huge shame for the town. We hope to get it sorted as soon as possible."
At around 1am, an 18 year old and 19 year old were stop-searched following the incident and were interviewed in connection with the graffiti by the Staffordshire police.
