A London church leader who, during the first wave of coronavirus, urged his parishioners to buy his fake cure for Covid, has avoided jail.
On Monday, the Inner London Crown Court handed Bishop Climate Wiseman a one-year jail term, suspended for two years, meaning he will serve in the community rather than in prison.
The 47-year-old will also be required to do 160-hours of unpaid work and pay £60,000 in court costs for warning his congregation they would “end up dropping dead” if they didn’t use his kit.
In 2020, the head of the Kingdom Church in Camberwell, South London sold an olive oil mixture of cedar wood and hyssop for £91 as he assured churchgoers he had found the cure for Covid.
The kits advertised as "Divine Cleansing Oil" or "Divine Plague Prevention Kit" also included a prayer card and a piece of red yarn.
Wiseman denies any wrongdoing but in December, a jury found him guilty of fraud between March 2020 and March 2021.
Kingdom Church has been previously investigated by the Charity’s Commission.
