A church in East Yorkshire is investigating after children celebrating a primary school harvest festival service were reportedly exposed to x-rated images on screen.
The Year 2 pupils were singing harvest hymns at Hornsea United Reformed Church when the lyrics on the screen were replaced by pornographic images.
The church is carrying out inquiries into the incident, while according to The Sun newspaper, Hornsea Community Primary School has written to parents to apologise, saying:
“As part of the singing, a church computer screen was used to share the song words.
“The church volunteers used their laptop to do this, and unfortunately for a few seconds, some inappropriate content was shown on the screen. Our staff immediately intervened and removed this from the screen.
“We are not sure if the children were aware of this and we have not spoken to them about it.”
The school says its head of safeguarding is following up the incident to ensure the church deals with it in an appropriate manner.
Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education at East Riding of Yorkshire Council confirmed they had been made aware of the incident in the church: "The school informed families the same day and will not be using the church until we can be reassured that this cannot happen again. The church are conducting their own enquiries into the incident."
One of the church elders said: “There’s nothing to defend here. We will just let the process take its course.
“It’s in the hands of the professionals.”
