Church in Wales released 10-point plan to reach net zero in less than a decade

by Sophie Drew

The Church in Wales has published a ten-point plan to achieve net zero by 2030.

Climate change has quickly climbed the agenda across a number of churches and denominations as people of faith work to protect the planet.

The new agenda has been published in time for Creation Sunday on the 12th of February.

The list contains a number of actions that every church – no matter the size – can take to make a difference.

The suggestions include switching to renewable energy, draught-proofing gaps in old doors and insulating the pipes, as well as pages of other ideas.

It also points towards an online calculator that allows each church to measure their carbon footprint before putting more procedures in place.

Dr Julia Edwards, the Church’s Climate Change Champion, said:
“We have a bold and ambitious target to reach and, as with all major endeavours, it will be easier when you break it down into smaller steps. This guide will help churches start with quick wins and build up to bigger and more ambitious initiatives.”

She continued: “This is a chance to show that net zero targets are about real world changes, not just well-meaning rhetoric. We are facing a climate emergency and the Church in Wales wants to be at the forefront of change. We hope this guide will help our churches get started and inspire them to make a real difference.”
