Lucille Terry, aged 85, has embarked on her sixth academic degree- Religious Studies.

Terry, who is from Cirencester but currently residing in Siddington Park's Rangeford Village retirement community, was honored at Cirencester Parish church for her dedication to education, with her children Paul Terry and Rachel Hodges by her side.

A retired teacher, Terry is currently studying for a degree in Religious Studies, Philosophy, and Ethics with The Open University- her fourth degree from the institution.

She credits her studies for enhancing her mental and physical well-being in retirement.

Rev Matt Frost, senior pastor of Cirencester Parish church told Premier Christian News: "Lucille is an enthusiastic and energetic woman. Most of us didn't know about this aspect of her life until now. It's really extraordinary - given all the activities that have been going on in her life over the years. She is very active in our church - hosting a house group and sharing faith in the retirement apartments where she lives. Our thanks to the Open University for going to the trouble of acknowledging her."

Beginning her academic journey with a pharmacy degree from Manchester University in 1962, The Standard reported that Terry's passion for learning led her to switch careers and become a teacher, further expanding her knowledge with a psychology degree to meet her students' interests.

Choosing academia over traditional retirement hobbies, Terry aims to motivate others by proving it's never too late to achieve one's dreams.

She told the news outlet: "I think education in retirement gives your life a focus,

"If I have a few days not doing anything, I will start doing some of my course and it makes me feel more mentally alert."
