A Glasgow church is appealing a council’s decision to refuse its toilet outbuilding, after planning officials deemed it a visual eyesore.

Remnant Christian Network, based on Govan Road, had installed the portacabin next to a church building. The space contains a toilet, as well as office rooms which can be used for church meetings and counselling sessions.

The council rejected planning permission for the it, on the grounds of its “visual impact”.

A challenge, brought by Mercy Allison of the Remnant Christian Network, claims that the building will be cladded with timber, and is of a modest size.

“On balance, the flexible character of the structure is far outweighed by the substantial contribution it will make to community wellbeing and the long-term resilience of the local area,” the appeal said.

One local resident told the Glasgow Times: “I live beside it and don’t have a problem with it.
