Christians urged to pray for London in midst of economic turmoil

by Tola Mbakwe

As the government struggles with dealing with the cost-of-living crisis and other economic issues, Christians are being encouraged to pray specifically for the city of London.

The annual City Prayer Breakfast takes place on 12th October at Holy Sepulchre Holborn.

It will be a time to pray for those who live and work in London, as well as praying for peace and unity in the city.

Chair of the event, Robert Hughes-Penney told Premier that although London can be viewed as the prosperous part of the nation, that’s not everyone’s experience.

“The City of London employs over half a million people and yes, there are a few people that earn very large salaries. But the vast majority of those, over half a million people, are on average salaries and there's a lot of people in the city who make the city what it is, who work as cleaners and who work as assistants and who work as receptionist,  people work in the hospitality and leisure industry.

“So there's all people from all walks of life working in the city and we need to pray for each and every one of them. In addition, the city is the hub for financial professional services across the UK. Across the UK, those industries employ about two and a half million people. So the city reaches far and wide into the lives of men and women, up and down the country and families are all over the country.”

This year’s theme for the event is “How to Serve”. After the main event there will be three concurrent breakout sessions hosted by the International Justice Mission on modern day slavery, the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity on workplace theology and The Word 121 on personal evangelism.

A Monthly Gift Of $11 Makes A World Of Difference

In a world of fake news there’s never been a greater need for quality Christian journalism. Premier’s mission is to provide the Church with the most up to date and relevant news, told from a Christian perspective. But we can’t do it without you.

Unlike many websites we haven't put up a paywall — we want to keep our journalism free at the point of need and as open as we can. Premier’s news output takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. No one in the USA is sharing news like we are across radio, magazines and online so please help us to continue that today.

For a monthly gift of $11 or more we’d also be able to send you a free copy of the brand new Premier Bible, a wonderful Anglicised version of the NLT packed with exclusive bonus content, reading plan and resources to help you get the most out of scripture.

Your monthly support will make a world of difference. Thank you.
