As the government shutdown enters its second week, thousands of Christians gathered on the National Mall to lift the name of Jesus for Communion America. 

Event organizers described the four-day event as a “festival around the presence of God.”

There were 50 tents of worship, representing a tent for each state, three sections on the field, and a main stage where speakers encouraged Americans to repent, pray, humble themselves, and call on God to heal America.  

“Nothing like this has ever been done before with an over-mile-long communion table and the church of America coming as one voice around God’s presence and the gospel,” event organizers said.

According to the Christian Broadcast Network (CBN), thousands of believers from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Israel gathered in the nation’s capital. The Communion table on the mall stretched for a mile between the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol.

"I believe that God is calling the Church outside the four walls,” Event Organizer David Bradshaw told CBN, adding that he sees Communion America as a bold witness to honor God in America.

Attendees hope that the event serves as a turning point in America, and that a united church can heal divisions. 

A Quinnipiac University national poll released in September 2025 reported that 79% of registered voters feel the U.S. is in a political crisis. This view was widespread across Democrats (93%), independents (84%), and Republicans (60%).

Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, 71% of voters think politically motivated violence in the United States is a very serious problem, a jump from 54% in June. Another 54% think political violence in the United States will worsen over the next few years.
