Christians encouraged to 'get uncomfortable' in solidarity with persecuted Christians

by Sophie Drew

A Christian organisation is urging people to get outside and pray for “an uncomfortable” period of time, in order to stand alongside persecuted believers.

Release International launched the idea on Sunday, 29th May, encouraging people to “feel the wind on their backs” as they recognise those that are not able to worship inside churches.

Many are forced to practice their faith in private, starved of the sense of community that places of worship often bring.

Those participating in All Out For God are encouraged to pray for at least five minutes, or longer if they can manage it.

Andrew Boyd, from Release International, said: “It’s a bit of a pun, I suppose. Are we really dedicated as Christians? Are we ‘all out for God?’

“In which case, if we are, well, let's actually get outside of our churches, let's go out, get out of our comfort zones, and join those around the world - our brothers and sisters in the faith - who have no churches to worship Him because their churches have been burned down, or because they've been denied a place to worship, and actually go out in the open air and pray for them and reflect on them and stand together with them.”

“It's about getting outside of our comfort zones.

“We're asking people to do this on May the 29th, if you can - if you can't, any other time we'll do -  and a stand for an uncomfortably long period of silence.

“If you can do it for about five minutes in just reflecting and standing with in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world.”
