The Liberal Democrats have published a review of the weapons system - which suggests the fleet of submarines could be cut.
Five former defence secretaries say the UK must keep a continuous nuclear deterrent at sea or squander its position as a leading world power. They've written to the Daily Telegraph, hours before the Lib Dems' alternatives to Trident are published. The party's in favour of cutting the number of missile carrying submarines.
But Conservative MP Sir Gerald Howarth who is a former Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence and a Christian told Premier's Marcus Jones on the News Hour why he thinks the Lib Dems are wrong:
