Christian resource tackles "commercialisation of children"

by Aaron James

Mother's Union says Labelled for Life will address things like advertising, budgeting, sexting, bullying and healthy relationships.

It also provides information on the relevant places to contact if potential criminal activity is taking place.

Conservative MP for Congleton Fiona Bruce helped launch Labelled for Life in Parliament on Monday.

It comes as a poll for Mother's Union found half of parents don't feel equipped to deal with a commercial world, while more than a third feel they have little or no control over the content their children view online.

Rachel Aston, Social Policy Manager at Mother's Union, told Premier: "The commercial world has grown in recent years to almost groom children to become consumers. They are trying to attract children either buy things for themselves or to encourage their parents to buy things... to build a brand loyalty with children.

"We are made in God's image and we are not made just to be consumers. Very clearly there is a biblical imperative not to base ourselves and our lives on what we own, but on who we are. Much of the commercial world does encourage us to want more."
