The Christian rapper Kanye West is under investigation after a report of battery was filed against him.
The incident is alleged to have taken place outside a members-only nightclub in downtown Los Angeles yesterday. LA’s Fox 11 network claims West punched a fan who had asked for an autograph.
In a statement, the Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to a call at 3am.
"A battery report was completed with Kanye West as a named suspect. No arrests have been made and the incident is being investigated by our Newton Division."
It’s reported the alleged incident is being investigated as a ‘misdemeanor battery’, which carries a maximum jail sentence of six months.
In March 2014, West had to undergo anger management sessions, perform 250 hours of community service and pay a fine after he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of battery when he attempted to wrestle a camera from a photographer.
In January 2014 West was accused of assaulting a man at a chiropractor’s office in Beverly Hills. He reached a civil settlement with the man and was not charged.
The singer, who has changed his name to ‘Ye’ first described himself as a born-again Christian in 2019, the same year his ninth album entitled 'Jesus is King' was released.
