Coventry City Mission (CCM) has been put forward for The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service for its work with the area's most vulnerable people.
The team was presented with the award by Prince Edward.
Speaking about it on Premier's The News Hour, CCM director Darren Burgess said: "It's an absolute thrill.
"We've been around for 31 years and to be recognised by such a person as the Queen means a lot when we do it every day and do it without thought."
The charity supports people in the community through a number of projects.
It looks to cater for their economic, emotional, education, social and spiritual needs.
Part of winning the award meant that some of the team were invited to visit Buckingham Palace.
Burgess told The News Hour the best part was having royalty hand over the prize.
He said: "Part of the deal is that a small number of the team gets to go to a garden party.
"It was an amazing day, but today Prince Edward coming to present us [with] the award is equally special."
