Christian artists in global exhibition

by Hannah Tooley

The Bridge is a travelling art exhibition organised by Caravan, an inter-religious NGO that incorporates different faiths to provide a link between communities through art.

It opens on Monday in St Martin-in-the-fields in Trafalgar Square and exhibits the work of 47 artists from 15 countries.

The works are being displayed around the world, promoting what it calls the creative harmony of difference.

Each artist has been given a same-size space, 80 x 60 cm, in which to create their art.

Revd Paul Gordon-Chandler is the founder and President of Caravan, and told Premier: "They [the artists] basically were just given the mandate, the focus of doing something that, in a sense, embodies what they think we hold in common, and the sense altogether it's making a case of using that, what we have in common, for the future.

"There's a sense in which this exhibition serves as this indirect catalyst for diverse peoples to come together, they would normally never come together, so it's a means of encouraging new friendships to be made across new religions and cultures."
