The bestselling book is due to be released in the United States on Valentine's day but now a Christian romantic drama will battle for ticket sales.
'Old Fashioned' will show a relationship from a faith perspective and take the "idea of Godly romance seriously" according to its writer Rik Swartzwelder.
In a statement Mr Swartzwelder said it's "a story that, without apology, explores the possibility of a higher standard in relationships, yet is also fully aware of just how fragile we all are and doesn't seek to heap guilt upon those of us that have made mistakes."
It will follow a couple as they take the 'old fashioned' path to a relationship.
The 50 Shades trilogy has sold well over 100 million copies.
Mr Swartzwelder admitted his film wouldn't do as well as 50 Shades: "[It]will have more screens, more money, more hype, but we're hopeful that we are not alone in our belief that there are others out there who desire more from love and the movies than objectification or domination."
