Christian music artist and Grammy winner Chris Tomlin says there’s a spiritual awakening in America as the world enters the Christmas season.

He made his comments during a special edition of The Five with co-hosts Greg Gutfeld, Dana Perino, Jessica Tarlov, Jesse Watters, and guest co-host Lawrence Jones during the network’s sixth annual “All-American Christmas Tree Lighting” on Nov. 21.

As he graced the stage to perform, Fox & Friends Co-Host Steve Doocy grabbed Tomlin for an interview to reflect on what he feels is an increase in spirituality.

“It is a magical time of year, but this year seems different,” Doocy said. “I was in church last week, and every seat was taken.”

Tomlin responded in agreement, saying he sees an “awakening” going on nationwide.

“I think people are longing for truth,” the artist stated. “We have so much information coming at us, left and right, what is true, what is real? I think people are longing for what’s real, longing for peace, forgiveness, the things of Jesus. This Christmas season, that’s what we celebrate.”

Their comments come as studies show more Americans are reading the Bible, especially among younger generations and men.  After years of decline, a Barba Group study shows that Gen Z and Millennials are engaging with the Bible more.  Weekly Bible reading among U.S. adults climbed to 42 percent, up 12 points since a 15-year low in 2024.

“2025 is showing a major rebound of Bible reading, along with a surge in usage among younger generations,” said David Kinnaman, CEO of Barna Group. “This aligns with other signs of spiritual interests and reinforces the finding that Christian faith and practice are experiencing a reset moment.”

During the special Christmas ceremony, Tomin sang several Christian songs during the celebration, including “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “Christmas Day,” “Holy Forever,” “Joy to the World,” and “Silent Night.”
