The Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth has launched a public consultation in Jersey to consider reducing the number of Catholic churches on the island.

In a statement on Monday, the diocese said the consultation had been launched to “inform the future of the parish of its intentions”.

The consultation, which will run until 23rd November, will guide decisions on the number and distribution of churches in the parish.

It comes as the National Churches Trust (NCT) revealed earlier this year that more than 3,500 churches of various denominations have shut in the last decade.

The diocese added that any changes would “progress following the decision-making processes of the Catholic Church.”
