Bono quotes Matthew 25 in refugee crisis message to church

In a message to Willow Creek Church in Illinois, the U2 frontman, famous for songs like Beautiful Day and With or Without You, shared Matthew 25:35 which says "...I was a stranger, and you invited in."

The singer-songwriter also praised the Church for the "heroic work" it has been doing in light of the refugee crisis and went on to quote Matthew 8: 20.

In the passage, Jesus says: "The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."

Bono went on to say the command to "Love thy neighbour" is not advice and the principle "has not changed."

He added: "This refugee crisis is defining us here in Europe. Less so in the United States.

"But the whole world has a job to do. And it's not easy. We have political figures from across the political spectrum, demonising refugees.

"We as believers are called to take a stand. I know you will. Thank you for your leadership, Willow Creek."
