Bomb squad called to 'suspicious items' outside Manchester church

Bomb disposal officers were called in to deal with a "suspicious items" found near a Manchester church on Thursday. The items were discovered near Holy Trinity Church in Ashton-under-Lyne, with the bomb squad being called in "as a precaution", according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

No one has been injured in the incident, and an investigation is ongoing, police say.

In a statement, GMP said: "At around 1.40pm on Thursday 7 January 2021, police were called to reports that suspicious items had been found outside a church on Dean Street in Ashton-under-Lyne.

“Officers are in attendance and bomb disposal officers have been called as a precaution.

"No-one has been injured and enquiries are ongoing."
