Plans are in place to transport the bodies of two Christian missionaries who were shot by gang members in Haiti back to their home town of Missouri this week.

The young couple, Davy and Natalie Lloyd were killed in an ambush in Port-au-Prince last week, where the pair served as part of Missions in Haiti Inc.

Haitian citizen and director of the missionary group, Jude Montis was also shot dead in the armed attack.

Missions in Haiti said the couple was leaving a church when they were ambushed by three trucks full of gang members.

Mob violence in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, has seen a sharp rise in recent months, with armed gangs reportedly controlling more than 80 per cent of the city.

Natalie Lloyd is the daughter of Missouri State Representative Ben Baker.

Speaking on behalf of the families, Cassidy Bowen Anderson announced on social media that transport had been secured for the bodies to arrive in Missouri on Thursday.

A GoFundMe page set up by Jeremie Bridges to help cover the cost of the funeral and transportation of the bodies back to the US has raised over $50,000 (£39,072.75).

A second GoFundMe page, launched by Chris Slinkard and Dirk Deaton has been launched to help support both the Baker and Lloyd families following their loss. At the time of writing, it has reached over $63,000 (£49,220).

Chris Slinkard has encouraged Christians to “lift up” the families in prayer, asking the Lord to “help them in their time of need”.
