Letitia Wright has done a Bible reading plan for the app YouVersion, featuring devotional videos from her each day, and has given her testimony in the video below of how she came to faith.
Wright is a British actress most well-known for playing Shuri in the 2018 Marvel film Black Panther and has been open about her Christian faith.
In her new devotional videos available on the Bible app, she talks about the verses that have helped her overcome different struggles in life, such as being depressed in 2015 and then trying to find her identity as she became a Christian.
In the first video she describes how Matthew 6:33 helped her through that initial dark time, even though she wasn't a Christian when a friend said it to her. In the second of three videos, she talks about Jeremiah 29:11.
"This Scripture means so much to me, because at the beginning of my walk, I was trying to figure out my identity in Christ. It was really difficult to see everybody just flourishing and feeling secure in their faith, and I didn't know who I was. During this time, God gave me this Scripture. Basically, He was telling me that his thoughts toward me were of good, of peace, of love, and not of evil-but to give me a future and a hope. That enabled me to be confident in myself, and to focus my mind on my future knowing the way that God is thinking about me."
Each video is followed by Bible verses to think about during a quiet time.
In an interview with Youversion ahead of the launch of the Scripture series, she spoke about how she came to faith.
"I was not fulfilled by life, even if I got an acting job, it was like it was the next. If I had money in my pocket, it was like how much more money? What else can I get from this? It was like nothing literally satisfied and I just knew something was up. I just knew that. This can't be life.
"My friend called me one day. He was just talking to me, he was just like 'God told me to tell you that you're not in a good place. I can tell you about Jesus and his spirit set me free, so I'm just sharing it with you'. And in that sentence it was like the interest just clicked and he gave me Matthew 6:33."
