A London pastor who told his congregation they would die from Covid if they didn't buy his "miraculous" cure for the virus, has been found guilty of fraud.
In 2021, Bishop Climate Wiseman told believers at Kingdom Church in Camberwell, south London, he had found the cure for Covid-19: an olive oil mixture of cedar wood and hyssop.
The 47-year-old sold the mixture for £91, marketing it as a "divine cleansing oil" and "plague protection oil". The oil was part of a "divine plague protection kit" which had a prayer card and a piece of red yarn.
Pastor Climate, who denied any wrongdoing, told the court God had showed him he was a prophet able to perform various miracles, including curing coronavirus.
But the church leader was found guilty of fraud between March 23 2020 and March 24 in 2021 by a jury at Inner London Crown Court.
Judge Nigel Peters KC, said he was carrying out the fraud when "there was fear amongst the public in this country".
"This was being touted at a time when the public in this country were under the most intense pressure as to what would happen tomorrow," he said.
Southwark councillor Evelyn Akoto, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said after the verdict: "There were a lot of vulnerable people at that time who were really scared and didn't know where to turn.
"And this was a potential cure, so a lot of people believed in it, unfortunately, and succumbed to pay high costs for something we know doesn't work.
"We're absolutely delighted that we've got this guilty verdict."
"I think it's important to highlight that we're not after a faith or a faith organisation as such but this is about an individual person and what he has done."
