Bishop of Salisbury leads artistic spin on the Walk of Witness

by Aaron James

Rt Revd Nicholas Holtam joined Christians as they walked round 15 modern-day interpretations of Jesus' last encounters before his death on the cross and His resurrection three days later.

They were dotted at notable public locations across the market town of Bridport in Dorset, with local Christians using their Easter Walk of Witness to visit each of them in turn.

The day was capped off with a reflective service in the sunshine.

Revd Philip Ringer, a local priest who took part in the artistic Walk of Witness, told Premier what message he hoped people would take away from the day: "One of hope, in that because the crosses we carry daily and bear daily, includes all our suffering, our hurt, our anguish, that there is hope and that the hope is in the resurrection of Christ."

He described one moving station: "Jesus meets his mother is two people, a man and woman, sat on a bench by a bus stop, against a local scene.

"The artist said in fact that he felt that Jesus was embarrassed to meet his mother, and the body language kind of speaks of that."
