Bishop calls for 'real remembrance'

Rt Revd John Davies of Swansea and Brecon says 'real remembrance' goes beyond a simple act of memory and challenges us to change our attitudes and actions.

He said: "We may, too easily, too conveniently, think of Remembrance purely as a simple act of memory: nostalgically calling to mind past events from personal life or the nation's history.

"However, real remembrance is challenging. It means our calling into the present events from the past; then taking a further giant step by reflecting deeply and unsentimentally on those events in such a way that it changes the way we view and live out both the present and the future."

Bishop John also called on Christians to remember those caught up in the current conflicts in Iraq and Syria.

Meanwhile, a young army cadet has planted the last poppy in the moat at the Tower of London.

The 888,246 ceramic flowers represent the number of deaths in the First World War.

More than 4 million people are thought to have visited the artwork which will remain in place until the end of November.
