Bangladesh Christmas Day church bombing foiled

by Aaron James

According to Asia News, the Islamist extremist group New Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (NJMB) planned to murder worshippers at Holy Spirit Church in Banani, an area of the capital Dhaka.

The Bangladeshi government increased security for 62 churches across Dhaka in the run-up to Christmas and foiled the plot on Christmas Eve.

Counter-terrorism police arrested the new leader of NJMB Moinul Islam, along with others, at an apartment in the Ashkona area.

They revealed yesterday that in the apartment they found paperwork outlining their plans for the Christmas Day suicide bombings at Holy Spirit Church.

It included sending fake Christians including a woman to the service, where they would then blow themselves up.
