Balcony collapses at Church of England school

Pupils were told not to come to class today after part of a canopy at Bishop Hooper School fell off yesterday.

No one was injured in the collapse.

The school is owned by the Diocese of Hereford.

It said the primary had been closed "as a precaution" and that a structural inspection had taken place.

A spokesperson for Hereford Diocese said: "Bishop Hooper is a Church of England School and we are keeping a close eye on developments.

"We have total faith in the Head teacher, Kerri Phelps, and are happy that parents will be kept fully informed and that Bishop Hooper School will re-open as quickly as possible."

The building has only been opened for five years and looks after around 80 pupils.
