An assistant principal in Connecticut has been placed on leave after a video of him emerged saying he wouldn't hire Catholics or conservatives.

Jeremy Boland, of  Cos Cob Elementary School of Greenwich, said he considers the religious group to be "brainwashed" and "won't change."

The elementary school teacher's comments were exposed when the video was posted online by Project Veritas, a right-wing group.

In the video, Boland can be heard saying: "if they're Catholic [or] conservative. "You don't hire them."

"If someone is raised hardcore Catholic, it's like they're brainwashed. " You can never change their mindset."

However, he did say that the local protestant community was fairly liberal by comparison. 

"You're teaching [children] how to think. That's it. It doesn't matter what they think about. If they think about it in a logical, progressive way, that becomes their habit."

Greenwich Public Schools superintendent Toni Jones was forced to respond to Boland's comments after he was placed on leave. 

The statement sent to parents reads: "The following is an update regarding the viral video that contains footage of an administrator at Cos Cob School. Immediately, the staff member was placed on administrative leave," stated Jones.

"We do not support any opinions that promote discriminatory hiring practices based on race, religion, gender, or age in any way, and we want to remind our entire community that our curriculum policies and procedures are strictly enforced by our board."
