Armed police help Christian family flee Bradford home

by Antony Bushfield

Nissar Hussain converted from Islam to Christianity and has been subjected to attacks and hate crimes since.

Last year the father of six, was hit 13 times with a pickaxe handle and punched and kicked - his kneecap and hand were broken (pictured above).

Speaking on Premier's News Hour, Nassar Hussein said: "Freedom [and] liberty should have been afford us. The situation is dire when it comes to converts because you lose your immediate family, you don't have anybody.

"There is no middle ground of acceptance, there is no tolerance when it comes to conversion to Christianity from a Muslim background."

The British-born nurse converted to Christianity in 1996 but said that problems began in 2008 when his family appeared in a Channel 4 documentary, Holy War, about how Muslim converts are treated.

Following the programme the family relocated, claiming strict Muslims had caused their move.

Even after the move Mr Hussain claimed that he and his family were prisoners in their own home.

Earlier this week police provided an armed escort as the family collected their belongings so they could move away again.

Police said there was a credible threat to the family's life.

The family have had eggs thrown at them, have been attacked in the street and have had their car windscreen smashed multiple times.

In a statement Westminster's All Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief said: "This incident, the APPG believes, typifies a trend of individuals targeted and, on rare occasions, killed for their beliefs in the UK and highlights a wider problem of integration of different individuals with different beliefs in UK communities."
