Archbishop of York visits homeless art project

Cathy Westby, the co-ordinator of 'Believe in Hull' told Premier how the project was going.

She said: "In June we had our flagship event called feeding 5000 where we fed nearly 5000 people with fried fish butties and everyone got fish to take away and heard part of the story of the gospel as well.

"That's really at the heart of what it's all about, whether that's directly preaching the gospel or through seeing through God through creativity and culture."

Cathy explained the latest event she was at and said: "At the moment, I am in an old church and we're hosting an initiative called hearing voices which is art work based on conversations and a long term relationship with homeless people and people on the edge of society in Hull...helping them tell their story through creative efforts."

When asked about the huge number of churches that have teamed together, Cathy said: "It's good to have a common purpose, we've worked together before but city of culture has given the funding for some work...we know a lot more about what's going on across the city now."

One of the churches, Hull Minster, is planning a Nativity in the city centre at Christmas with live camels.

Cathy explained: "That has been really exciting for the big and the small churches to feel they can put together something spectacular by working together.

"We've seen God working through the whole thing, one exciting thing is that it's not just through what we're doing as churches but the new sense of confidence that the city has got."
