Dr John Sentamu's charity, Acts 435, wants to help 40 people turn their lives around.
The online charity aims to link directly with those who need help, it works through local churches and charities on the ground giving things like rent deposits to people trying to get off the streets.
Speaking to The York Press, Executive Director, Jenny Herrera, said the charity would love to see support for those in need.
She said that in previous years 20 people had been helped and this year they hoped that they would be able to help more.
One story featured online has said that money is needed for clothing: "28 year old man who is unemployed has started attending Church after he began getting help from Christians Against Poverty.
"He doesn't have many clothes and the ones he has are in poor condition.
"A gift of £120 would help him buy some new clothes which would boost his confidence when volunteering, mixing with people at Church and attending job interviews."
