He will be visiting Barrow as part of the Believe in Barrow campaign, which has been designed to celebrate the community.
The North West Evening Mail newspaper reported they are expecting 500 people to attend, and the town will be hosting a range of events for all ages.
Dr Sentamu is opening the festival this morning with a talk in the marquee in Barrow Park.
The town will also be housing a number of acts from fire-breathing to brick-smashing and a dance performance as well as speakers.
The festival will end with a combined service with the Bishop of Carlisle and a picnic in the park.
The rural dean of Barrow, Reverend Gary Cregeen, said: "This is a festival which, yes, is about the church, but is also about the community of Barrow and about residents of the town having pride in where they come from.
"We have an absolutely fantastic range of events lined up, and the Archbishop of York is a huge part of what is planned.
"He is very keen to see and meet people from Barrow's different communities. I will be taking him to the cafe in the market while he is here for a bite to eat.
"We really want people to get involved. The things we have planned are not just for those who go to church - they are open to the whole community."
Commenting before the event, Dr Sentamu said: "I am really looking forward to joining you soon for Believe in Barrow - you have a fantastic programme of activities and all of these will be opportunities to share Christ, who gives us life, life in all its fullness.
"I am praying it will be a real boost for the town and a sign of hope for the future. Don't miss out - see you there."
