Most Rev Sarah Mullally, The Archbishop of Canterbury, will be in attendance for the House of Lords vote on decriminalising abortion.

Lambeth Palace has confirmed to Premier Christian News that Archbishop Sarah will attend and vote as peers debate the amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill on Wednesday.

It comes after social media speculation about whether she would be absent, as her pilgrimage to Canterbury ahead of her installation begins on Tuesday. 

Peers are set to debate proposals that would allow abortion “for any reason, up to birth” in England and Wales, for women regarding their own pregnancies. 

MPs voted in favour last summer, after less than an hour of debate in the House of Commons. The clause was introduced by Tonia Antoniazzi MP. 

Peers will also discuss amendments that would reinstate in-person consultation with a medical professional, prior to an abortion taking place at home.
