Archbishop blesses audience on TFI Friday

by Desmond Busteed

Dr John Sentamu was Evans' first guest on the Channel 4 reboot.

"It won't be the almighty watching, it will be me!" said Dr Sentamu before blessing the audience with holy water.

TFI Friday was smash success for Channel 4 with its one-off special attracting 4.3 million viewers.

Host Chris Evans brought back his 90s TV classic with an array of celebrity guests including Jeremy Clarkson, Kirstie Allsopp, Blur and Lewis Hamilton.

He tweeted: "Did that really happen last night? My wife has the MOTHER of all hangovers - hilarious.

"Thx so much for watching everyone - we had such a blast. I mean, real fun, we were all so relaxed. I love Suzi, Will and Barty. The Best ever."

He continued: "TFI won its slot last night and peaked at 4.3 million, that's over twice what we ever got "back in the day". What a total hoot. Peace & Love."

The show ran beyond its slot but was given an extra 15 minutes and has been praised by viewers and fans.
