Man City star Semenyo says baptism transformed his walk with God

by Anna Rees Green

Footballer Antoine Semenyo has opened up about faith with teammates at Manchester City, ahead of the new Premier League season.

The winger told BBC Sport that being baptised last December has allowed him to practise his Christian faith with conviction.

“I’m obviously walking with God at the moment, and want to maximise my faith as much as I can,” he said. “Baptism gives me the opportunity to do that. I’m in the walk of faith now, and it’s been amazing.”

Recalling his childhood, Semenyo laughed: “Mum and Dad didn’t let me go to football practice until I’d been to church on Sunday.”

He added that he feels “maximum strength” from fellow Manchester City players Marc Guehi and Jeremy Doku.

“We pray in the hotel together, the night before [a game], and in the tunnel,” he shared. “I think when you have brothers in Christ… we’re confident… it’s great.”
