Speaking to Channel 4 (in the video below), she was asked if God directly spoke to her.
Ms Leadsom replied: "That question is not one that is for open laughing at and poking fun at, and I can absolutely feel that is what you'd like to do.
"So, I absolutely am a Christian and I am proud of it.
"It absolutely acts in the background in my desire to have a very honest campaign with high intergrity and so on.
"But if you're asking me to say 'Well, God's told me to do this and do that', then of course that's not the case."
Andrea Leadsom is up against Theresa May, also a Christian and the daughter of a vicar, to become Britain's next leader.
Ms Leadsom has frequently mentioned her faith and the impact that it has on her.
Giving her testimony on the Christians in Politics website she said "I always try to ensure that I'm doing what I think God would want me to do".
