Amazon criticised for selling 'Black Lives Don't Matter' caps which feature crosses

by Will Maule

Amazon has come under fire for allowing the sale of a baseball cap emblazoned with the slogan "Black Lives Don't Matter". Barrister Alexandra Wilson spotted the item, saying it was "honestly embarrassing" that the hat had been approved for sale by the retailing giant.

An image of the hat shows that the "t" characters in the text have been replaced with crosses - the item was being sold for £12.96.

In the product description, the hat's seller described the hat as "high quality" with a "unique and fashionable" design which would make a "nice present for family and friends".

The group Black and Asian Lawyers For Justice called the hat "blatant fascist ideological propaganda".

After Wilson drew attention to the item on social media, Amazon removed it, with the barrister saying it was "disappointing" that it took the company so long to get rid of the listing.

In a statement, Amazon said: "All sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action including potential removal of their account. The product in question is no longer available."

Amazon's guidelines prohibit the listing of products that “promote, incite or glorify hatred, violence, racial, sexual or religious intolerance”.
