Adam Ramsay-Peaty has said he is not seeking redemption for a disappointing bronze, when he goes for gold in the Commonwealth Games men’s 50m breaststroke.
The 31-year-old Olympian became a Christian in 2023, after a battle with low mental health. Last year, he wed Holly Ramsay in a much-discussed ceremony at Bath Abbey.
Having started the Glasgow Games as a favourite to win the men’s 100m – his star event – he was disappointed to come third.
“The Commonwealth Games should be about embracing the Commonwealth, and wanting each other to do well,” he said ahead of Monday night’s 50m race. “I wouldn’t say [I’m after] redemption, but I do think I can put a good performance out there.”
Ramsay-Peaty broke down in tears after the 100m final, questioning the “5.30 am starts” he commits to in order to compete.
“That is this sport; you don’t get more than a minute to prove yourself,” he told the BBC, wiping tears. “I don’t know, I just think I deserve more… We’ve got to keep it in perspective, but I just know I’m a better athlete than that.”
