A ‘relationship with God’ among the most popular New Year resolutions, US survey shows

by Kelly Valencia

A new survey examining New Year resolutions among Americans has revealed a ‘relationship with God’ is one of the most popular life goals for 2022.

A survey by Lifeway research has shown at least 29 per cent of US adults have made a resolution about their relationship with God in the past. This resolution is particularly popular among Christians who attend a worship service at least four times a week (48 per cent) and are aged between 18-34 (35 per cent).

The popularity of this resolution then drops to 25 per cent for those aged between 50-64 and to 17 per cent for those aged 65 or over.

Among the religiously unaffiliated, 14 per cent have admitted having made a resolution about their relationship with God in the past.

Top of the list of New Year resolutions is health, with 44 per cent of US adults saying they have made a resolution about their health in the past, followed by finances at 29 per cent.

At least 31 per cent of Christians who attend a worship service 1 to 3 times a month have admitted to having made New Year resolutions about their finances.

Meanwhile about half of Christians who attend a worship service at least four or more times a month have made a resolution about their health.

Other topics included in the list are the use of time (22 per cent), work (18 per cent) and relationships with friends (15 per cent).
