A 92 year-old nun has become an internet sensation, after enjoying a doner kebab for the first time.

Sister Irmingard, of the Arenberg convent in Koblenz, had stopped off with seven fellow nuns to enjoy one of Germany's most loved dishes after a pilgrimage.

A video of her enjoying the kebab, and a Coca-Cola, has been viewed more than seven million times on Instagram.

“I’m delighted. I’d always heard about this doner. And I thought, ‘You’ve got to the age of 82 without eating one,” Sister Irmingard said, before fellow nuns reminded her “you’re 92”.

“I want to deal with [the rest of] it this evening”, she added.

Also tasting her first kebab was Sister Hildegunde, aged 89.

After the video became an online hit, Sister Ursula explained how the nuns had been coming back from the Holy Rock festival in Trier, going to the Firat Kebab House for a meal to celebrate their manager before her pilgrimage.

“We all felt we were about to die because we were so full up. I had to walk around the garden 27 times before I could sleep … We may be old but we are still crazy enough to do this kind of thing on a bog-standard Friday evening”, Sister Ursula said in a follow-up video.

Sisters at the Dominican convent share pictures and videos of their day-to-day life and service on social media, to just under 15,000 followers.
